Biography

Marc Emmelmann graduated summa cum laude from Technical University Berlin holding a Master of Science degree in Computer Engineering.

He currently works as a senior scientist for the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems (FOKUS). As a member of the compentece center for Next Generation Networks Infrastructures (NGNI), he manages projects in the area of cognitive radio networks. His research focuses on cognitive systems for dynamic spectrum access and self-organization in high mobility wireless communication systems. Research results are integrated as Self-Organizing-Network (SON) extensions into the OpenEPC Platform developed and licensed by Fraunhofer FOKUS.

Marc was fomerly affilliated with the Technical University of Berlin, faculty of computer science and electrical engineering. As a member of the Telecommunication and Networks Group (TKN), his reaearch interest focused on seamless mobility support at lower OSI layers covering all aspects of the handover including novel apoaches towards network discovery, handover decision, and link-layer reestablishment schemes.

He is an active member of the IEEE having served in several Technical Program Commitees as well as a reviewer for numerous conferences and journals. Marc established the IEEE 802.11 Task Group for Fast Initial Link Set-Up (TGai). Apart from leading this standardazation task group, Marc actively monitors the IEEE standardization groups for Dynamic Spectrum Access (IEEE 1900 DySPAN).
